9 Beautiful Bathroom Ideas to Inspire Your Next Remodel

After a long day, nothing is more soothing than a bubble bath or a nice, hot shower. However, bathrooms serve more than a purely functional purpose—they’re where we spend our first waking minutes, gearing up for the day ahead, and the last few moments each evening, winding down for the night. How our bathrooms look and feel can help set the tone for a great day or help us ease into a deep, restful sleep at night.

Recent emerging bathroom design trends will make you want to give your bathroom a head-to-toe makeover. No matter your color preferences or aesthetics, let these designer-recommended bathroom ideas inspire your next renovation.

Clean Lines and Minimalism

Clean and clear spaces have a calming effect, so it’s only fitting that this idea translates to bathrooms. “Embracing clean lines and a minimalist approach in bathroom design imparts a sense of sophistication and timeless elegance,” says Meredith Huck, owner and principal designer at House of Huck. “Streamlined fixtures, frameless mirrors, and uncluttered spaces contribute to a modern aesthetic.”

In general, interior design is trending towards inclusivity and accessibility, a “really positive trend we are seeing in our industry,” says Wendy Glaister, an interior designer and American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) member. “One way I’ve seen it played out in bathrooms is the increased implementation of zero-threshold showers, which are flush to the floor with no lip or ledge. These features promote the concept of universal design—in which design is accessible to the largest group of people. The seamless transition from floor to shower tray has no step or ledge, so people of any mobility level can easily access the shower.”

Wallpaper With Personality

The most impactful trends always make their way back around, and wallpaper is no exception. Wallpaper has made a comeback in bathrooms, adding personality and drama, says Huck. “Opt for bold patterns or intricate designs to transform the walls into a focal point without overwhelming the space.” Wallpaper allows you to add more detail than painting. If you’re worried about your budget, you can always choose a peel-and-stick option.

Sustainable Options

Sustainability is increasingly present when it comes to interior design. “As the world feels the impact of climate change more and more, homeowners are prioritizing integrating sustainable options within the home,” says Glaister. “In the bathroom, homeowners are more likely to opt for energy-efficient products such as LED bulbs, water-efficient fixtures, and energy-efficient features such as light dimmers and shower timers.”

Mixed Materials

Mixed materials are in, as far as bathroom design is concerned. “Experimenting with a mix of materials, such as combining different types of tiles, metals, and finishes, adds visual interest and depth to the bathroom,” says Huck. “This trend allows for creative expression and a personalized touch.” Just because bathrooms are functional doesn’t mean they can’t showcase your originality.

Steam Showers

Self-care is essential, and homeowners are doubling down on wellness. “There’s an increased interest in spa-like amenities in bathrooms, including steam showers and saunas,” says Glaister. “Steam showers have been at the top of the list as science has shown that steam showers may contribute to allergy relief, lower blood pressure, and better sleep.”

Integrated Technology

When you think of smart home capabilities, the bathroom may not be the first room in the house that comes to mind, but not for long. “Smart and integrated technology is becoming increasingly popular in bathrooms,” says Huck. From high-tech toilets with bidet features to smart mirrors with built-in lighting, these innovations enhance convenience and functionality.”

Natural Materials and Woods

It’s not uncommon to see wood in other rooms of the house, but now we’re even seeing it in the bathroom. “Incorporating natural materials like wood into bathroom design adds warmth and a touch of nature,” says Huck. “Wooden vanities, open shelving, or even wooden accent pieces bring an organic feel to the space.” Wood is also the perfect complement to plants, which are a great addition to any bathroom.

Durable Fixtures

Gone are the days of cheap renovations and bathroom upgrades. “With the bathroom being one of the most-used spaces in a home that experiences a ton of wear and tear, homeowners want to be cautious and aware that the fixture they are selecting lasts them a long time,” says Glaister. “Water and steam-resistant cabinets are a must, along with rust-free faucets.”
