Who Is Jeremiah Brent? Meet The New ‘Queer Eye’ Interior Design Expert

After Bobby Berk’s controversial departure last year, Queer Eye has introduced a new interior design expert, Jeremiah Brent. The 40-year-old renowned designer made his Fab Five debut in the recently released ninth season, which is now streaming on Netflix.

Brent was announced as Berk’s replacement a few months after Berk confirmed his departure from the reality show. The Queer Eye reboot, which premiered in 2018 on Netflix, saw Berk join as the interior designer in its debut season.

“It’s with a heavy heart that I announce that season 8 will be my final season on Queer Eye. It’s not been an easy decision to be at peace with, but a necessary one,” Berk penned on X in November 2023. “Although my journey with Queer Eye is over, my journey with you is not. You will be seeing more of me very soon.”

In March, Rolling Stone published an exposé that alleged Tan France, with support from Antoni Porowski, “campaigned” to replace Berk with his friend, Brent. France denied these allegations in an Instagram video posted on March 8. “My former colleague getting fired has nothing to do with me trying to get my friend hired.”

The fashion expert continued, “Netflix and the production companies did a full-on casting. I didn’t put my friend up for the job. They ended up getting it because they were the best person for the job,” he said. “I’m so happy that they got the job… I think they’re going to be incredible.”

Amid the swirling drama and rumors surrounding the Fab Five, Brent assured fans there’s no tension among the cast. “I’ve got to tell you, there’s no drama with any of us. We’re all in a group chat. We’re having the time of our lives,” he told House Beautiful in March. “Everybody’s heads and hearts are in the right spot. It’s really healthy right now, and I think we’re all really excited about this season.”

Who is Jeremiah Brent, Queer Eye’s new interior design expert, and what should you know about him? Learn about Brent’s design experience, his family life, and more.

Who Is Jeremiah Brent?

Jeremiah Brent is an interior designer, television personality, and author. He is the founder of Jeremiah Brent Design (JBD), an interior design firm with locations in Los Angeles and New York City, according to his website.

He also established the lifestyle brand and retail store Atrio, which offers furniture for various spaces, including kitchens, dining areas, living rooms, bedrooms, and outdoor settings. The curated retail experience has one location in Culver City, CA.

How Did Jeremiah Brent Get His Start In Interior Design?

Brent’s journey into interior design started “by chance” when he began flipping secondhand furniture for himself and his friends.

“I get asked a lot what my journey was becoming an interior designer. And truth is, it was super unconventional and a lot by chance, and fully feuled by passion,” Brent said in a March 20 Instagram video, per Apartment Therapy.

“I started furniture designing out of necessity when I was 19 years old. I couldn’t afford anything, so I went to the Goodwill and I bought everything I could afford and I modified it, and I started doing it for friends,” he added.

Brent was then asked to design his friends’ rooms—and he never looked back. His big break came in 2011 when he was hired as a styling associate for Rachel Zoe on the fourth season of her show, The Rachel Zoe Project.

The California-native went on to grace the covers of magazines like Domino, Architectural Digest, Harper’s Bazaar and People. He served as the host of the Emmy Award-winning show Home Made Simple for OWN network and appeared on Netflix’s Say I Do.

Brent recently published his first design book, The Space That Keeps You. In the book, he explores the reasons behind why our living spaces feel like they truly belong to us. It also features candid conversations with individuals and families from various backgrounds, lifestyles, and locations.

Is Jeremiah Brent Married?

Jeremiah Brent is married to fellow interior designer Nate Berkus. They were introduced by Rachel Zoe while they were dating other people, and two and a half years later, when they were both single, they made plans to meet up in New York City.

In a video interview for People Magazine’s “Love Issue,” the couple revealed that they went furniture shopping together on their first date. Brent described it as “love at first sight,” to which Berkus added, “Our first date never ended.”

“We both like each other, which is really great when you’re married to somebody,” Brent continued. “We both love eachother, we love spending time with one another, we respect eachother, and I think talking a lot is not a popular thing for a lot of people, but that’s like the sexiest thing to me in the world.”

Brent and Berkus tied the knot in Manhattan on May 22, 2014, becoming the first same-sex couple to marry at The New York public library.

Does Jeremiah Brent Have Children?

Jeremiah Brent and Nate Berkus have two children, both born through surrogacy: an 8-year-old daughter named Poppy and a 6-year-old son named Oskar. Berkus told USA Today that they formed “lovely relationships” with both surrogates and would be “thanking them forever” for “completing our family.”

The couple welcomed their first child, Poppy, via surrogate on March 23, 2015. Two years later, their son, Oskar Michael, was born via surrogate on March 26, 2018. The designers shared that Poppy was excited to welcome her younger brother into the family.

“We always thought she’d be sweet, but we never thought she’d be so kind and nurturing,” Brent added. “It’s pretty adorable.”
