‘Home Town’ Fans Were “Prepared Not to Love” Latest Renovation

Erin Napier’s latest renovation was a bit of a departure from her usual style. On this week’s episode of Home Town, she and Ben worked with Mundise Mortimer, who moved to Laurel, Mississippi, from North Carolina to be closer to her sister and focus on her artwork. Mundise has an interior design background and is the daughter of an architect, so she has well-defined opinions about how she wants her home to look.

Erin said that she wanted to have appropriate space to display Mundise’s artwork, so they decided to paint the interior museum white (Dove Wing and White Dove, both by Benjamin Moore), which is not what Home Town fans are used to seeing in Erin’s homes.

The Napiers maximized the space by building an entertaining kitchen with a separate scullery. Erin added different sheens for interest and distinction. She said, “White on white gives you a lot of opportunity for nuance as far as how it’s lit and what kind of art you use.” Even the exterior got a fresh coat of white paint (French Macaroon by Benjamin Moore).

Erin admitted she was nervous about the design but she thought the final product was “glowy and effervescent.” She said, “It’s artful, it’s colorful. The floors add so much warmth. The kitchen feels really elegant, open, and bright.” Mundise agreed and seemed thrilled with her new home.

Erin shared photos from the renovation on Instagram and was met with comments from fans who were dubious at first. One wrote, “I never knew white on white on white could be so diverse and charming. Of course, all of the art/furniture and use of white oak. really made a difference, but it was a lovely transformation.” Another viewer commented, “I was completely prepared not to love this house because of ‘the lack of color.’ I couldn’t have been more wrong. This home is so lovely, welcoming, and colorful.” One fan chimed in with, “I wondered about so much white but honestly everything looks so beautiful. It looks incredible. Excellent work 🙌👏❤️.”

Another viewer said, “I’m a huge fan of your designs in general but this is truly one of my favorite designs ever!!!”
