The Top Home Decor Trends of 2024, Taskrabbit Reports

This year has been a whirlwind of constantly shifting trends, “cores,” and aesthetics—and it’s honestly been hard to keep up. Especially when it comes to home design, it’s nearly impossible to change out your decor with every ephemeral trend (and you shouldn’t have to). However, looking back at the biggest trends influencing home design can provide inspiration when you’re looking to update your space. That’s why we’re sharing results from Taskrabbit’s 2024 Trend Report, which uses an analysis of thousands of Taskrabbit bookings to determine the top trending “cores”—aka home design aesthetics—of the year.

As you’ve probably noticed, the use of the suffix “core” alongside different home and fashion trends, and the use of the word “aesthetic,” is a major trend in and of itself. In fact, the use of the word “aesthetic” in task descriptions has increased by 56% since last year, Taskrabbit reports. While the language itself may seem a bit played out, it’s all part of an overarching theme of people wanting to curate a specific style and atmosphere in their homes—and we’re all for that. So, here are the top seven trending home “cores” of 2024, according to Taskrabbit.

Gardencore

More and more people have taken up gardening in the past few years, whether that means caring for a few potted plants indoors or building a dreamy outdoor oasis. Taskrabbit has seen an increase in bookings for landscaping tasks (+17%) and gardening tasks (+31%) this year. For those expanding their outdoor gardens, Taskrabbit saw an increase in vintage accents (+12%), fountains (+12%) and pebble walkways (+15%).

Another fun callout in the Taskrabbit report: Help with backyard weddings is up 200%. So not only are people building out their dream gardens, but they’re also creating picture-perfect wedding venues.

Craftcore

Thanks to the endless amount of DIY tutorials on TikTok and Instagram, many of us are feeling inspired to take home decor projects into our own hands. Taskrabbit found a 17% increase in people hiring Taskers to help them incorporate handmade projects into their decor. This includes everything from people needing help mounting an original art piece on the wall to moving an upcycled piece of furniture from the garage back inside.

The creative, craft-inspired aesthetic is also influencing home decor, with an increase in requests for things like gallery walls (+26%) mosaics (+21%), and murals (+27%), the report found.

Hostingcore

Many things are better when shared, and people are keeping this in mind when designing their spaces. According to Taskrabbit, the addition of sleeper sofas is up 113%, making more homes suitable for hosting overnight guests. The report also shares that Taskers are being hired to help with cleaning and decluttering ahead of parties—and party-related tasks overall are up 40%. To curate a home space that’s always party-ready, more and more people are adding special beverage stations to their homes, with home bars up 46% and mini-fridges up 26%.

Sportscore

With the rise of pickleball and the popularity of the tennis-centered film Challengers, racket sports are trending—enough for people to decorate their homes after them. In fact, the amount of people decorating with sports gear (including mounting rackets on the wall) is up 33%, and the use of “tennis ball yellow” as an accent color was up 16%. Tennis and pickleball fans or not, more homeowners are finding ways to improve their wellness amenities, and home gym amenities are up 17% on Taskrabbit.

Westerncore

You’d have to have been sleeping for the past year to miss the increase in cowboy boots and Western-inspired style taking over—and the trend has snuck its way into home decor, too. This Western style can be incorporated in simple ways, like by using natural materials such as wood, leather, and metal, and by incorporating regionally-appropriate plants. In fact, Taskrabbit saw a 44% increase in people decorating with cacti, both with the plant itself or as a decorative motif. Other Western motifs like horseshoes, cow skulls, and star symbols are also trending up.

Techcore

As technology advances, our homes are getting smarter and smarter. Taskrabbit saw a whopping 220% increase in smart home installations, with specifically a 13% increase in more eco-friendly appliances. Taskrabbit users are also looking for more help with computers (+242%) and with wireless items (+105%).

Colorcore

Perhaps the most overarching home decor trend of all is that people are infusing more personality and custom touches into their space—and they’re doing so with bolder colors and patterns. Requests for help with wallpapering are up 70% over last year, and the use of the word “eclectic” in requests is up 200%.
