Two years ago, a pediatric neurosurgeon and her physician husband traded their Seminole Heights bungalow for a spacious two-story Spanish and Mediterranean-style home in South Tampa’s Virginia Park. Initially drawn to the home’s arched doorways, terracotta tones and sunlit interiors, its lack of cohesion and character didn’t make the family of four feel at home. Audra Samnotra of Social Swan Decor would quickly change that.

Honoring the home’s Mediterranean roots, a palette of blues, reds, and earthy terracottas set the tone across the five-bedroom home. Samnotra layered in organic textures—bouclé fabrics, rustic wood, ceramic planters—and vintage-inspired rugs, smoked glass lighting and collected treasures. Among the standout pieces: a hand-carved candle stand, a Moroccan bone-inlay mirror that echoes the home’s arches and a live-edge dining table the couple searched long and hard for. The art centerpiece—a striking mixed-media piece by a German artist—anchors the dining room.

The living room, now bathed in warm, layered light, is the heart of the home. Samnotra preserved the romantic architecture—arches, artisan finishes—while scaling up lighting and materials to match its grandeur. The result is a balance of Old World craftsmanship with timeless materials to develop an interior design approach that embraces tradition and layers in fresh, modern touches.
