4 Ways to Channel the Bubbly Magic of Wickedcore Decor

4 Ways to Channel the Bubbly Magic of Wickedcore Decor

As the countdown to the release of the very much-anticipated film adaptation of Wicked (in theaters November 22) continues to build, it’s not a surprise that an aesthetic based on the movie is already emerging: Wickedcore. Inspired by the beloved musical, this trend marries bold colors, whimsical elements, and eclectic styles, all echoing the wonderful world of Oz. From striking emerald greens reminiscent of the Emerald City to intricate details that reflect the complexity of its characters, this trend is perfect for those looking to add some theatrical whimsy to their home.

According to interior design experts, here are four ways to try out the Wickedcore trend in a sophisticated and tasteful way.

1. Pair Pink and Green

The movie’s iconic pink and green color scheme is the most recognizable part of Wickedcore. Choosing the right shades of each color is essential and determines the look and feel of the final design.

When picking out your palette, designer Cara Newhart suggests first playing around with different shades. For example, choosing one light shade and one dark shade of each color can help provide more contrast and balance everything out.

Next, opt for muted tones for a softer, more polished finish. And if you already have some pink or green decor, furniture, or paint in your home, simply add some accessories in the opposing shade. Artwork, lighting, and textiles such as throw pillows, blankets, and curtains are a few ways to pull this off.

As for paint color recommendations, Newhart has you covered. She’d go for BEHR’s Ash Rose and Mountain Olive for earthy, muted tones or Ballet Rose and Meditation Time if you’re seeking something a little brighter. If pastels are your thing, try Nutmeg Frost and Folly for a soft color combination that is perfect for everything from nurseries to powder bathrooms.

2. Avoid Overly Literal Decor

Keep your Wickedcore decor feeling classy and sophisticated by avoiding decor that’s too obvious, says Newhart. Incorporate subtle details like movie posters, iconography from the film, and more. The goal is to use the movie’s colors, characters, and aesthetic as inspiration rather than an all-out template.

3. Channel the Characters

The contrast between the movie’s leading characters, Elphaba and Glinda, makes all the more Wickedcore intriguing and fun. While Glinda’s aesthetic is whimsical, soft, and decidedly pink, Elphaba’s is moody, dark, and of course, a dark green. But you can use the characters to help inspire your Wickedcore decor, beyond just the pink and green color palettes.

“Pastel shades are great in lively settings, like a kitchen or playroom, with bubble chandeliers or light fixtures that are Glinda-inspired,” Newhart says. “[Alternatively], you can go deep and moody in an office or bedroom with rich matte accents that are Elphaba-inspired.”

4. Add Whimsical Elements

Of course, don’t forget to add some enchantment! Wicked and the Land of Oz is full of whimsy and fantastical magic. Bring this same sense of wonder to your Wickedcore home decor by incorporating plenty of playful, fanciful touches throughout your home. Add some to your space by using unexpected shapes (start with furniture, lighting, and decor), mix and match colors (again, pink and green have you covered here!), dreamy prints and patterns, and fun details.
